Community change-makers defending the environment
From courtrooms to wetlands, grassroots action can drive real environmental change
EcoNetwork Port Stephens is inviting you to a Community Change-Makers Forum on Sunday 22 February, bringing together speakers who have successfully challenged harmful developments, strengthened community resilience and created lasting environmental protections.
The Forum aims to inspire practical, positive action at a local level.
Among the speakers are Wendy Wales and Tony Lonergan, who helped lead a landmark Court of Appeal case that set a precedent for climate impacts to be considered in planning decisions.
Local resident Kathy Brown will outline concerns about a proposed multi-storey development near the Mambo-Wanda Wetlands, while Sam Johnson from the Nature Conservation Council of NSW will explain the importance of wetlands and the laws that protect them.
Jo Lynch will also speak about practical ways communities can build resilience to flooding and coastal inundation.
The forum is open to community members, volunteers and anyone interested in protecting the local environment.
