South Tomaree Community Association

South Tomaree Community Association Inc. (STCA)

Who is STCA?

The South Tomaree Community Association Inc. (STCA) is a volunteer‑run, not‑for‑profit organisation that exists to represent, support and advocate for the postcode-2316 communities.

Established in 2015, replacing the Anna Bay Community Action Group, which was formed in 2012, STCA works to ensure that local voices are heard, community values are respected, and the places we live are protected now and into the future.

Our passions and concerns about current issues

Over the past year STCA has had a busy, purposeful — and at times hard‑fought — year.

Together, we’ve shown that when the community speaks with a united voice, it can influence decisions and achieve positive outcomes.

Here’s what was achieved in 2025:

  • Protected sensitive land and wildlife by successfully opposing a major rezoning proposal at Anna Bay that threatened flood‑prone land, core koala habitat and peat swamp. The AB Rise proposal was rejected by Council and again on appeal by the Hunter–Central Coast Planning Panel.
  • Led community opposition to Council’s sale of land and the proposed rezoning of rural land at 19 Gan Gan Road for light industrial use—advocating for planning outcomes that reflect local values.
  • Advocated for community safety, access and local livelihoods alongside Birubi SLSC and businesses by pushing for the reopening of the lower Birubi Beach car park.
  • Commenced engagement with Council to update the outdated Anna Bay Strategy & Town Plan (2008) — a critical step in shaping the future of our area.
  • Worked with Council and Landcare to deliver a new children’s playground on Dunmore Avenue.
  • Opened constructive conversations with precinct and resort owners about future opportunities for Anna Bay.
  • Supported grassroots community action addressing graffiti, vandalism, flooding and drainage issues.
  • Assisted with grant applications to deliver tangible benefits for our community.
  • Adopted a new Vision, Mission and Core Values Statement to guide STCA into the future.

Community events

STCA has staged a range of activities that include our youth and families. We are always interested in hearing the needs and wants of the wider community.

The second Spring into Summer event was held in early November 2025 and celebrated our community by recognising local volunteers and showcasing the creativity of students from Anna Bay Public School, while providing fun activities for all present. This event will again be scheduled in 2026.

On Clean Up Australia Day in March 2026, STCA partnered with local groups to remove over 50 bags of rubbish from the Anna Bay area thereby having a direct impact on the local environment. The plan for 2027 is to extend the area for the activity.

Volunteering

If you think you would like to support our community, please consider volunteering in either of the following teams.  We welcome newcomers with open arms. Just send an email to stcainc17@gmail.com to let us know of your interest.

Graffiti-free team

Our local area is fortunate to have residents who have been removing graffiti on public buildings and community spaces over many years. If you haven’t seen graffiti, it is likely because this team has been up early and removed it first!

Anna Bay Landcare

This small team also likes to get their hands dirty in the local area. Their activities range from weed removal to mulching and planting in the community spaces, for example around the Anna Bay sign, Hannah Reserve, Dunmore Avenue Playground and Robinson Reserve.

Looking ahead, key priorities for the coming year include:

  • Collaborating with Council on a new community informed Place Plan (replacing the 2008 strategy)
  • Delivering the 2026 Spring into Summer community event
  • Developing a STCA website and a regular members newsletter to be more visible and communicate better
  • Supporting community grant applications including Stage 2 of the Community Hall revitalisation
  • Working with the new owners of the Anna Bay Resort
  • Beautification of the Anna Bay shopping precinct
  • Community education on flooding and drainage issues associated with our coastal wetlands—and more

STCA meetings

Our monthly meetings are generally held at 5.30pm – 6.30pm on the 2nd Monday of each month at the Anna Bay Scout Hall on Fishermans Bay Road.
