Always Was, Always Will Be – by Thomas Mayo
by Ewa Meyer, EcoUpdate Editor
Did you vote YES in the 2023 referendum for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander recognition in the Australian Constitution and a Voice to Parliament?
Are you wondering if this is all now a thing of the past?
Despite the sad and damaging result of the referendum, the good news is that the next crucial steps forward on the long road to recognition and fairness for our First Peoples are never far from our hearts and minds.
Last week, Thomas Mayo, a leading proponent for the YES vote, launched his new publication and emphasised that there is no giving up.
“I’m pleased to announce that I’ve finished writing my new book, ‘Always was, Always Will be: The campaign for justice and recognition continues’.”
Since the referendum, supporters and volunteers have been asking for guidance as to how to continue to support First Nations recognition and justice. Mayo, a leader of the Yes23 Campaign and co-author of the bestselling ‘The Voice to Parliament Handbook‘, has penned a new book to answer that question.
For those who missed it, here is Thomas Mayo’s inspirational address at the National Library of Australia. It includes questions from the audience and take away messages including – wear your YES t-shirt, put your fence sign back up, keep the conversation going!
