EcoNetwork submitted on the NSW Government’s intent to develop Improved Native Forest Management method. This generates Australian Carbon Credit Units through reduction in logging on public native forests.
The Nature Conservation Council outlined this has the potential to provide a significant financial incentive to end native forest logging in our public native forests and to limit expansion of private native forestry. Alarmingly, it could also provide a financial incentive to subsidise and prolong native forest logging.
The recommendations are aimed at two outcomes
1/ Removal of reduced logging (deferral) from the method, whilst retaining only the ending of logging (cessation) as a project activity
2/ Improving the integrity and transparency of the method.
