Affiliate Profile: Readers Retreat
EcoNetwork’s newest business affiliate, Readers Retreat, has recently opened its doors. This local independent bookstore has already established links with two other EcoNetwork affiliates, the Raymond Terrace branch of Boomerang Bags and Salamander Bay Recycling.
Readers Retreat is proud to be a distributor of the beautiful bags from Boomerang Bags. The global grassroots organisation has saved thousands of kilograms of fabric waste from ending up in landfill. At only $5 per bag, with 100% of the profits going back to Boomerang Bags so that they can contribute back to the local community, these works of art make a valuable, useful and meaningful purchase.
The collaboration with Salamander Bay Recycling means that book lovers can be part of the circular economy. Readers Retreat sources some of the books from the recycling centre and also encourages customers to take books back to the centre when they are finished. Keeping books in circulation is a great way of preventing them from cluttering your bookshelves whilst simultaneously supporting two local businesses.
At Readers Retreat you will also find a great selection of books and artwork featuring local writers and artists. Joanna Atherfold-Finn’s book Plastic Free and her acclaimed collection of short stories Watermark are available. Mathew Spillard’s calendars featuring bird photography and Walter Lamond’s book about the history of Soldiers Point and Salamander Bay Landcare can also be found on the shelves.
Book lovers can place orders for books available from the major distributors and take advantage of the free home delivery service throughout Port Stephens. But everyone is also welcome to browse the eclectic selection of fiction and non-fiction that includes a significant collection of books about nature and environmental issues.
Readers Retreat is open Wed-Sat 10am-4pm and is located at Unit 2 / 9 George Road, Salamander Bay.
